Joel Boyd is an Emmy-nominated writer, actor, producer, and director his audience has described as “visceral, witty, and real”. Originally from Milwaukee, WI he broke through the scene as a Just For Laughs New Face of Comedy in Montreal in 2018.

An innovative and savvy creator, he’s been on the rise as a writer, producer and script consultant for such hit shows as DROP THE MIC (TBS), HISTORY OF SWEAR WORDS (Netflix), EARTH TO NED (Disney+), NAILED IT! THE BIG NAILED IT BAKING CHALLENGE (Netflix), and ARSENIO! LIVE FROM NETFLIX IS A JOKE FEST (Netflix). Gracing the small screen as a guest star on HOT DATE (PopTV), INSIDE JOKES (Amazon), PICKLED (CBS), and a recurring role on THE CHI (Showtime).

Recently his work as a producer with LeBron James’ production company on the documentary special RECIPE FOR CHANGE: CELEBRATING BLACK MEN (The SpringHill Co.) has garnered him a nomination at the 2024 Daytime Emmys.

His career has blossomed into writing and producing comedic material for such celebrities as Halle Berry, Marlon Wayans, Nicolas Cage, Hailey Bieber, Raven-Symoné, Lil Rel Howery, and Nicole Byer to name a few.

Joel also serves as the Director of Programs for the creative social impact organization The 3 Lines Collective.

His acting can be seen in such big brand commercial ads as Hyundai—where he is seen opposite Kevin Bacon—as well as spots for Visa, McDonald’s, Hidden Valley Ranch, Smirnoff, and more.

Joel is most notably known for his award-winning dark comedy mental health web series, SAD-ASS BLACK FOLK, of which he is the co-creator, star & co-director. You can also see him in the Sopranos prequel film, THE MANY SAINTS OF NEWARK.

He currently resides in Atlanta, GA where he can be seen through electrifying stand-up & improv performances, or holding a caramel macchiato at a coffee shop.
